ever wonder what the major cavities of the body are made up of and their names?

Major Body Cavities


1. Cranial cavity: cranial means skull, this cavity is located in the head superior the medial, and is surrounded by the skull. It also contains the pituitary and endocrine glands.
2. Thoracic cavity: thoracic means chest, this cavity is located in the anterior portion of the body and the mediastinum. It contains the cavity that surrounds the breast bone and ribs. Containing the lungs, heart, trachea, larynx and bronchial tubes.
3. Abdominal cavity: This cavity is the space inferior the thoracic cavity, located in the superior /medial half of the transverse plane. It contains the diaphragm (divides the abdominal and thoracic cavities), stomach, liver, gallbladder, and stomach, large and small intestines.
4. Pelvic cavity: This is located below the abdominal cavity, which is inferior of the transverse plane. It contains the urinary bladder, ureters, urethra, rectum and anus, and the uterus in females.
5. Spinal cavity: This is the space that surrounds the spinal column or backbones. This is located in the posterior section of the body. It contains the spinal cord, the spinal column, which is a long row of bones from the neck to the tailbone. These individual bones are called vertebra. The tissue in between are called disk, or disc, which are made up of cartilage.

2. Thoracic cavity: This cavity contains the lungs, heart, trachea, pharynx, larynx and bronchial tubes.
3. Abdominal cavity: This cavity includes the diaphragm, stomach, liver, kidneys, gallbladder, and stomach, large intestines and small intestines.
4. Pelvic cavity: This cavity includes the urinary bladder, ureters, urethra, rectum and anus, and the uterus in females, prostate gland in males.
5. Spinal cavity: This cavity includes the spinal cord, spinal column, tailbone, vertebrae, disc.(cartilage)

a. Lungs, larynx, bronchial tubes, trachea, pharynx- respiratory system
3. Abdominal cavity:
a. Stomach, large and small intestines- digestive system
4. Pelvic cavity:
a. Ureters, urethra, kidneys- urinary system
b. Uterus, prostate gland- reproductive system
5. Spinal cavity:
a. Coccyx, vertebrae- musculoskeletal system

You meant to say pituitary & pineal gland?

There are several endocrine glands all over the body.
