There are many health reasons to shave your pubic hair, including reduced yeast infection and vaginal odor.

The Health Benefits of Shaving pubic hair

The benefits of shaving your pubic hair are undeniable. When you shave your pubic hair you will notice and decrease in your vaginal odor. vaginal hairs can hold oder and making sweat, an increase in moisture can cause yeast infections. plus I just feel like I got more room to breath down there. Shaving your pubic hair also increases sexual pleasure, it will help your man to find where he is going.

Now if you are like me, you put off doing this because you were afraid to cut yourself. The idea of waxing is more terrifying than cutting myself with a razor. Now thanks to these eyebrow trimmers you can have the benefits of shaving without the fear of cutting yourself, because these micro trimmers are designed to cut hair without cutting the skin. This type of razors will not shave you completely bare, but the more you do it the finder the hair becomes. I really don't like to go completely bare because I can't stand the unbearable itch when the hair start to grow back in; most medical professionals think that you should leave some hair to catch some of the germs that are entering the body. Personally I had less yeast infections since I started shaving my private area.

Ladies please leave some hair. Any man who cannot find where he is going is in serious trouble!
Leave some hair!
For the medical reasons mentioned and because having a girl look like she hasn't reached puberty is a bit disturbing.

shave means totally bald ...... most of the time one feels like having one dick slipping from top of vagina before inserting it in hole meant for it ...even half centimeter of hair would cause irritation .. more so hairs do disturb oral sex as licking vagina becomes difficult with bushes down there

Shaving is NOT full of health benefits. It also doesn't decrease odors or possibilities of yeast infections, it increases them. You can also add ingrown hairs, boils, skin infections and infected hair follicles to the list of things it can potentially cause. It regulates temperature, etc. Trimming and cutting only came in style after thousands and thousands of years because of the porn industry. They go hand in hand on the time line. It was meant to "display" the organs more clearly for the viewer. Now that porn is so ubiquitous, this look has carried out into the rest of the society. So please don't pass this off as healthy or fact. It's absolutely nothing more than a preference, and due to our high hygiene standards, cleanliness simply wouldn't be an issue for someone who washes DAILY.

Well said here. There is no evidence to show that shaving/balding was ever routine or socially popular before the porn industry began the pre-pubescent look to the fore in about the late 90's, and it took off from there. It is a shame that such has influenced pop-culture at all, but worse that so many intelligent adults have encouraged and embraced it.

Hair removal is a preference! BUT many doctor as well as many shows like Dr. Oz, The Doctors, ect. have mentioned the benefits of both timing and shaving. The TREND of shaving and timing IS Centuries old. The only reason it seems that the porn industry started it was because the world was to prudish to talk about it out load. Plus any vintaged material seen has shown both full hair and shaved bald. So don't claim its a porn thing you dinges!

Women have pubic hair for a reason. The coarse texture is meant to trap dirt and bacteria, and keep it out of her vagina. Many people believe that because of this, the hair gets dirty and gross and should be removed to maintain personal hygiene. However, consider this: if there's no hair for all that dirt and bacteria to get trapped in, it can get inside her vagina and cause infections. What's worse, hair or an infection? It has also been said that pubic hair forms an air pocket to keep the area cool. Without that air pocket, that area can get sweaty, a perfect breeding ground for yeast and bacteria. Another purpose of pubic hair is to give off pheromones, which are supposed to help a woman attract a mate. Sex can feel a little lacking without those natural pheromones, even if there's no hair down there. Because of the health risks, some women decide to trim. Trimming does have benefits, it can make oral sex easier, and can make menstruation a little neater, but it's not as risky to her health. This can be a good compromise for many couples who find themselves in conflict over something so simple as shaving.

Essentially, keep daily vaginal hygiene a constant, don't introduce anything into your vagina that wasn't ever meant to be in there, and whenever your partner is going to put their mouth, hands or penis in there, be sure these too are sanitized first. Hair is not the cause for vaginal odor, but if you're already unclean or stenchy, it could help hold onto the odor. Simply put, keep your vag and hair naturally and properly cleaned, sanitized and ph balanced and odor will not be a problem. Shaving is not the answer, and going bald brings more potential harm and trouble than any perceived benefits...

Lorinda your posts are incredibly offensive and rude. I seriously doubt you would be so callous when speaking to people face to face. In your posts you have essentially called the author and all women who chose to trim or shave slutty and dirty. I know it is difficult to remember that people online have feelings too. But you seem like an intelligent and caring adult and I a sure you are capable of being nice and still making your point. I do appreciate your thoughtful engagement on the subject but it is up to all of us to maintain civilized online community.

My wife has a genetic condition where her body doesn't properly process yeast as a result of this she gets yeast infections regularly, despite her excellent hi-gene. Once she gets an infection it is very persistent lasting for as long as 3 weeks. She was getting an infection roughy once a month. She tried altering her diet and her hygiene regimen to solve the problem but nothing worked. Last year after after six straight months she started closely trimming and she went from once a month to once a year.

She didn't decide to do this because of PORN or as Ncapa implied because she is a SLUT but because of the experience of our indian friends who shave their pits to reduce bacteria and thus odor. The logic is less moisture and heat are trapped by the hair and their is less surface area for bacteria to grow on. I actually tried this on my pits first and I was able to stop using unhealthy aluminum rich anti-persperents and switch to a natural de-oderant.

Cleanliness is one thing but the idea that you are going to use sanitizer on your vagina and penis seems a bit absurd and unrealistic. Your entire body is constantly covered and filled with bacteria not to mention the human mouth. So what are all women to forgo oral sex because its not sanitary?

What I am saying is this, every body is different and you have to do what works for your body I see alot of women and men on here trying to pressure women into doing what they think is right by stigmatizing behavior as slutty or saying if you have to do this its because your dirty.

This is all such a lie! Do yourself a favor and google "war on pubic hair" and "benefits of pubic hair". Once you shave it, it WILL come back, and there WILL be ingrown hairs, and as they break free, you open yourself up to infection. I'm sorry, but Yvonnek is not more knowledgable than those who assure us that we have pubic hair for a reason. It's bad enough that women have been brow-beaten into shave our legs. Has anyone ever questioned why we do this? No, we haven't ALWAYS done this, and no, it isn't more sanitary. It's just a pain (literally), and we need to start questioning these practices more often instead of just following blindly.

Dear Constance,
Please hold off on saying every woman that shaves is following blindly. I shave because having pubic hair has caused me to get many infections. My doctor recommended that I start shaving because for some of us it IS a healthier option! Not because of porn. Shaving the body does date back a while. Do some research. Also I shave my legs out of comfort. Going to bed at night with itchy long hair is not comfortable for me and for many women I know. Shaving is all about preference. It is time you come to terms with this. No ones following blindly. Everyone has reasons to shave. My are health and comfort reasons. Please relax with your comment above. It is rude.
Thank you for understanding.

I just want to put in a few facts of my own.

1) Pubic hair traps dirt and particles getting into the vagina. Just wash yourself regularly and there is no problem there.

2) Having pubic hair reduces the risk of infection.

3) The hair traps air which keeps the area cool and so reduces the risk of bacteria growth.

4) Pubic hair releases pheromones which increases sexual attraction.

So I'd rather keep it there or at the most trim. Shaving doesn't benefit women in the long run.

My experience as a man. I've been shaving for over 10 years. I used to get pimples and sores in the summer from chafing. I started shaving and this was greatly reduced but not eliminated so I began to use canestin cream which also helped but I still got some "bumps". Now I shave every 3 days or so and use a natural mineral crystal deodorant. No more bumps or odor and my girlfriend loves the clean smooth area. Sex feels better and it invites more oral sex. Win win.
